Total points needed on 1000-point scale for each final grade.

In Scale 1, the midterms were weighted 20% each; in Scale 2 the first midterm was weighted 16% and the other two midterms 22% each. In both scales, the final exam was weighted 40%. In a small number of cases, a small bonus was awarded for class participation and/or a significant trend of improvement from the beginning of the semester to the end; otherwise, each student received the better of the two grades computed from the two scales.
