• B: (This portion due Mon. 10/1/01; .) Read the handout "Constructing R from Q: Dedekind cut approach", and do the exercises. Some of these may eventually be hand-in problems.

• C: (This portion due Wed. 10/10/01.) In the handout "Constructing R from Q: Dedekind cut approach", on p. 2, renumber the exercises labeled "1, 2, 3" as "6, 7, 8" respectively. Hand in the relabeled exercise 6.

• D: (This portion due Wed. 10/10/01.) Do the following problems from Rosenlicht: p. 61/1,3,4,6,7. Hand in only numbers 1,3,4,6.
