Due-date: Friday 12/2/16
You are required to do all of the problems below. You may not be required to hand them all in. I will announce later which ones you do have to hand in on the due-date. Don't make the mistake of thinking that I'm collecting only the problems I think are important.
The "due date" above is the date that your written-up problems should be handed in, but don't wait to get started on the assignment. You should always get started on problems as soon as we cover the relevant material in class.
- A: Rosenlicht pp. 90–95/ 1ad, 2. Of these, hand in only 1a, 2.
- B: Click here for non-book problems (updated 11/28/16). Of these, hand in only B1, B2ab, B3, B4abce, B5.
Remember that you are allowed to assume results of earlier hand-in problems or sub-problems to do later ones (so, for example, in B4 you may assume the result of B3, and in B4e you may assume the results of B4abc), whether or not you successfully completed those earlier (sub-)problems. You are also allowed to use the second proposition on p. 60 of Rosenlicht.- C: Read the second proposition (and its proof) on p. 60 in Rosenlicht. (This is the only significant part of Section III.6 that we haven't gone over in class.)
