Due-date: Wednesday 4/21/21
You are required to do all of the problems and reading below (except for anything explicitly labeled "optional"). You will not be required to hand in all the problems. I have indicated below which ones you do have to hand in on the due-date. Don't make the mistake of thinking that I'm collecting only the problems I think are important.
The "due date" above is the date that your written-up problems are to be handed in, but don't wait to get started on the assignment. You should always get started on problems as soon as we cover the relevant material in class.
- A: Tao exercises:
Of these, hand in only 6.5/ 1.
- 6.5/ 1
- 6.6/ 1
- B: Click for non-book problems. Of these, hand in only B4, B8, B9a. (B8c is just the initial paragraph after the "(c)". The remainder is commentary, not part of the problem.) For extra credit, you may also hand in B2, B3, B6.
For extra-credit homework problems, in any problem-part I will not read beyond your first mistake (if any), or anything that is ambiguous and/or requires me to read more than once to understand, or anything that is difficult for me to read for any reason, including handwriting. ("Mistake" includes incorrect grammar, punctuation, etc., that I've been correcting all year.) I may also not grade these problems if your course-grade would be an A without them.- C: Read the handout Functions of Matrices. (This includes reading all the exercises, since that's most of the handout.) Do at least exercises 1, 3–6, 7abcf, 8abcd. (Most of these are very short.) For extra credit, you may hand in the following: C5ab, C6, C7ace. ("C5" means "Exercise 5 of the Functions of Matrices handout," etc.)
