Miscellaneous handouts

• What is a proof? Ignore the references to the textbook; this handout was originally written for a linear algebra class (MAS 4105).
• Mathematical grammar and correct use of terminology. Same comment as above.
• Book of Proof, by Richard Hammack. This is the textbook now being used for MHF 3202 (Sets and Logic).
• One-to-one and onto: What you are really doing when you solve equations. This was written for a more elementary class, but you may still find it useful.
• Logarithms and Exponentiation. Required reading for my MAA 4212 students who did not take MAA 4211 with me. This material was not covered the same way in Dr. Vatter's section. (Students who were in my MAA 4211 section were already assigned this reading last semester.)
• Continuity, Images, and Inverse Images
• The Extended Reals. In this handout, sequences are denoted with curly braces (the notation I was using in 2014) rather than parentheses; e.g. \( \{a_n\}_{n=1}^\infty \) rather than \( (a_n)_{n=1}^\infty \).
• Functions of Matrices . In this handout, elements of \({\bf R}^n\) are denoted in boldface.
